My ministry at Bibles International is a partnership with missionary church planting across the world. Please browse my pages to learn about me, where I’ve been, where I am, and what prayer requests I have.
Ministry
I am the Chief Language Consultant at Bibles International, the translation, publishing, and literacy division of Baptist Mid-Missions. My responsibilities are to manage and expand the resources and efforts in translation, literacy, and linguistics projects around the world, by superintending the ministry from the home office, visiting those fields personally, representing BI’s ministry across this nation, and equipping and training current and future workers at different levels of the text production process. Since I’m a consultant, I will do translation consultation, and since I’m the head consultant, I’ll oversee all our consultants and all other personnel connected with the language-technical activities.
Testimony
The Lord gave me the privilege of being born into a Christian home, and He pursued me for salvation when I was 5 or 6. The preacher spoke about hell. Though I was young, I understood that I was a sinner and needed a Savior if I wanted to escape eternal punishment in hell (Matt. 25:46), so I repented of my sins and called out to the Lord to save me. A few years later I was baptized by immersion (Matt. 28:19-20). Since I did not grow much during my adolescent years, I began to doubt my salvation. The Lord convicted me of my lack of fruit at a Christian camp in 1985, so I rededicated myself to the Lord at that point. Since that day, I have pursued the Lord in faith and obedience, though I have come to realize that the same grace that saved me also keeps me. My righteous standing before God rests not in my salvation prayer nor in my present obedience, but in what Christ has already done for me on the cross (2 Cor. 5:21). I strive to live for Him in thankfulness for His unspeakable gift (2 Cor. 9:15), praising Him for abundantly pouring out His grace upon this hell-deserving sinner (Eph. 1:7-8).
Call to the Ministry
Since my dad was an electrical engineer who eventually worked his way into management, I decided I would pursue the same course. But as I came to the end of my studies in Engineering Science and Physics at Bob Jones University, the Lord called me to enter full-time Christian ministry, though I didn’t know exactly what type. During my in-depth biblical training in graduate school at Bob Jones University, the Lord created in my heart a love for theology and biblical languages, and He wed that with my interest in teaching and missions. I spent two years in Cameroon, teaching at the Cameroon Biblical Seminary in 1998-2000. I completed my doctorate in New Testament Interpretation in 2005, by the grace of God. The Lord took my father home because of lung cancer in December 2004, so I decided to stay in Greenville, SC, for another two years. During that time, I taught undergraduate Bible courses at Bob Jones University, taught a two-week course in Ukraine, and gained valuable ministry experience and training at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. Dr. Hantz Bernard called me on January 2, 2007, to ask me if I would be interested in ministering at Bibles International as the Chief Language Consultant. By guiding me through numerous means (including Isaiah 40:6-8), the Lord helped me to realize that He has been equipping me for this ministry throughout my life. My training, experience, desires, and abilities are all converging upon this extremely important task.

Dr. Manning,
Thanks for continuing to send your prayer letters. I’m sorry you hurt your back. I can’t believe it takes a year for it to heal! I bet you’ll nevertake your back for granted again!
I was one of those graduates that walked across the stage May 9, though I finished up last December. And you did have a part in my education. Bible Doctrines and Modern Cults (Dr. Sidwell) probably helped me more than any other Bible class at BJU.
I know your support must seem like it’s slow in coming, but I’m sure you rely on the familiar verse in 1 Cor. 15:58 “Threfore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmush as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

Troy, thank you so much for the card and note you sent me for my birthday. Guess what I got for my birthday from my family?….. a computer! There will be a lot to learn, but my children are convinced I can do it. I will try to keep up with where you are and what you are doing.
I hope you are feeling better and please say ” hello” to your mom from me.
Happy Thanksgiving, Mary Veltman
